Deborah Paquette is an author/illustrator who works primarily in watercolour, charcoal, coloured pencils, pencil, and digital media. Her work is whimsical, lively, and colourful.

In 1995 she embarked on a 25-year odyssey of parenting and homeschooling but still managed to teach art, create art, and serve others with art. In 2023 she was a PB Party Honorable Mention and the winner of the LDSPMA Spark Award in the Picture Book Category.

Artist Statement

I'm sure that people chuckled, shook their heads, and muttered that the little girl obliviously dancing in the grocery store aisles would eventually grow out of such nonsense. But they were wrong. I frequently still live in that same fairyland. Sometimes that magical world breaks through the barriers of the "real world" all on its own, like when a bright piece of striped candy in a twinkling glass jar on a deep mahogany countertop overwhelms me with its beauty. At times like that I am always filled to bursting with the amazingness of it all and feel irresistibly compelled to share.

In a perfect world, more artwork would celebrate children and the things children love. My goal is to make things a little more perfect.
